Principal’s
Report:
-
Attached to the
Principal’s
report is the
February
income/expense
report
(available in
the school
office). There
are some
increases in the
08/09 budget due
to the rising
cost of health
benefits for
Diocesan
employees.
Catholic
teachers who
have children
enrolled as
students receive
a discount off
of their
tuition. The
Diocese
recognizes the
importance of
attracting
qualified
Catholic
teachers to our
schools while
giving their
children the
benefit of a
Catholic
education.
Father has
helped six
families this
year with
tuition
assistance. Ms.
Eltringham
provided the
board with a
packet of
information on
enrollment and
the cost to
educate. Ms.
Eltringham and
Father Walter
asked the board
to vote on
raising the
tuition of each
student $100 a
year
($10/month). S.
Delisio made the
motion to raise
the tuition and
T. Heineman
seconded the
motion. The
tuition for the
2008/09 school
year will be
raised $100 per
student. On a
final note, Ms.
Eltringham
indicated
Catholic Schools
week went very
well.
Pastor’s Report
- Father spoke
about the
affordability of
attending St.
Bernadette. Father
also talked about
the Lady of Lourdes
and the anniversary
celebration coming
up. Ash Wednesday,
First Sunday of Lent
& the Lourdes
celebration Mass on
Mon. at 3:00.
Teachers’ Report
Mrs. Kerns gave the teacher’s report:

Pre-school:
Preschoolers are
studying the
ocean, Ll, Mm,
Nn, Oo and Pp.
They are going
through number
pattern and one
to one.

Kindergarten:
They have been
busy learning
the letters Oo,
Ff, Hh, Dd, Rr
and sight words;
is, play, are,
for, and you.
They wrote
Christmas
stories on the
computer and
sentences about
playing in the
snow. In math
they are
learning the
numbers 11-20.
They colored
pictures for the
nursing home and
decorated
birthday bags
for the food
pantry for their
service project.

1st:
First grade
students are
learning to
count coins in
math and are
spelling and
reading words
with the long
vowel sounds.

2nd:
Students are
learning about
Lent and
preparing for
First Communion.
In science they
are learning
about natural
resources and
how to use them.
In math they are
working with
graphs and
getting ready
for shapes and
solid figures.

3rd:
Third graders
are studying
money,
practicing
counting money
and counting
back change in
math. In social
studies they are
studying
Washington DC,
our capital, and
capitals of
other countries
and why they are
important to all
governments. In
Health they are
studying
nutrition and
the food
pyramid. In
Lang. Arts they
are starting
their 4th
unit-compare and
contrast. They
are focused on
Lent and what it
means to be
Catholic in
Religion.

4th:
Fourth grade
students are
also studying
Lent in
Religion. In
Math they are
working on
multiplying by
2-digit numbers
and heading into
long division
and number
theory. They are
reading Brian’s
Hunt in reading.
They are talking
about slavery
and the
Underground
Railroad in Ohio
history.

5th:
Fifth graders
are studying
order of
operation and
algebraic
patterns. In
social studies
they are
learning the
colonization of
the 13 colonies.
In religion
class they are
preparing for
Stations of the
Cross & Mass on
Mon. Feb.
11th—recognizing
the First Lady
of Lourdes. They
are reading the
literature book,
‘The Witch of
Blackbird Pond’.

Enrichment:
Students are
working with
electricity-it
is a shocking
experiment! In
Interest groups
1st & 2nd, they
are doing book
club-story
extension
activities.
Groups 3rd & 5th
are working with
photography-elements
of a good
picture.

Nurse Jane:
Screening 5th
graders-vision,
hearing, weight,
height, and
scoliosis.
Home and School
Report – Given
by Mindi Harp.
Last meeting was
January 16, 2008. It
was an evening
meeting and
attendance was good.
Discussions
included; the
upcoming Mardi Gras
fundraiser, the St.
B. library upgrade,
and the possibility
of holding an after
school Spanish class
for those who are
interested. The
Mardi Gras is
February 2, 2008.
Those in attendance
at the H & S meeting
voted to use H & S
funds for the
library project and
it’s operating
costs. Jennifer
Spiegel provided an
outline of a once a
week Spanish class
for any student who
is interested. Each
class would cost $5,
payable at each
session; the classes
would run for 8
weeks. Mrs. Spiegel
would be teaching
the class.

A.) The organ
fund has
$42,000. The
organ has been
ordered and
installation is
scheduled for
the week of
March 10th.

B.) There will
be an election
of 3 new School
Advisory Board
members for the
2008/09 school
year.
Nominations are
due March 30th
and a review of
the nominees
will be at the
April 1st
meeting. General
election by the
Parish will take
place April 19th
& 20th.

C.) Bishop’s
elementary
Planning
Committee
Guidelines-fiscal
report.

D.) School
budget
preparation,
teacher salaries
for 2008/09
school year.
Parish Finance
Committee will
be meeting soon
to discuss this
matter and
Father will make
his
recommendations
to the
committee.
Motion to adjourn
meeting by S.
Swisher and Dr.
Meszaros seconds the
motion. The next
meeting will be
March 4, 2008.
