Old Business-

We will continue
to extend the
deadline until
we have more
interest from
the parish
and/or parents.

Pam Eltringham
updated the
Board on tuition
rates for
preschool and
kindergarten.
Principal’s
Report-

Tuition
collection to
date is
$236,748.94
-
Registration is
in progress:
· We are
asking for a
substantial
deposit, which
will apply to
next year’s
tuition. The
deposit is
non-refundable.
·
Kindergarten: 19
registered as of
3/1/10 (12 are
from our
preschool, with
3 more students
a possibility, 7
are new.)
·
Registration has
opened to the
public today
(3/1/10)
· We have
3 “not
returning”
notices for next
year.

COSI is
scheduled for
Friday, March 5
– The Incredible
Human Machine.
Mark Wade was a
success. Many
thanks to Home
and School for
sponsoring both
programs.

Our self-audit
for Protecting
God’s Children
has been
completed. We
are following
the guidelines
outlined by the
Diocese.
-
Our accrediting
self-study is
underway. As
soon as the
faculty has had
the opportunity
to discuss the
findings of the
surveys from
parents,
teachers and
students, we
will share the
information with
stakeholders.
Teachers’ Report
-
Preschool has
recovered from
Mardi Gras and
is settling into
Lent; preparing
our hearts for
Jesus’ death. We
are learning and
trying to
understand what
Easter is all
about. We are
learning Qq, Rr,
Ss, and Tt. We
will soon be
traveling to
outer space to
study the solar
system.

Kindergarten has
introduced
letters Rr, Ee,
Bb and Ll. The
children are
learning the
sight words:
Are, for, you,
this, do and
what. We are
learning the
numbers 0-20 and
practicing
counting to 100.
We read about
Presidents
Washington and
Lincoln. We also
discussed that
people work to
earn money to
buy things they
want and need.
Science classes
were about
plants and their
parts and needs.
We made Lenten
promises in
Religion. We had
a wonderful
Grandparents’
Day.

First grade is
learning to
count coins in
Math. We are
working on past
and present
tense verbs. We
are learning
about the water
cycle, and we
made timelines
in Social
Studies.
-
Second grade
received First
Reconciliation,
and are
beginning Holy
Communion. We
are discussing
plane shapes and
solid figures in
Math. We are
learning about
Early American-
Native Americans
and Colonists.
We are studying
dinosaurs,
fossils, and
paleontologists.
In Reading, we
are comparing
and contrasting
paragraphs.
-
Third grade is
still practicing
multiplication
and division
while studying
data with tables
and graphs, and
working on
customary and
metric units of
measurement. We
finished
studying weather
and are
beginning the
solar system
with a visit to
Peters
Planetarium. We
are working on
early
communities
(Native
Americans and
Early Settlers).
We are studying
the care of
ears, nose,
teeth and eyes.
In Language
Arts, we’re
studying
contractions.

Fourth grade is
preparing their
presentation of
Stations on
Mary, and
studying Lent.
We are finishing
up nutrition and
starting to
discuss personal
health/physical
activity. We are
multiplying by 2
and 3 digit
numbers and
heading into
division. We are
discussing the
French and
Indian War, the
American
Revolution and
Northwest
Territory.

Fifth grade is
studying prayer,
fasting and alms
giving during
Lent. We are
learning about
the Constitution
and three
branches of
government. We
are studying
properties of
rocks and
minerals, and
are planning a
field trip to
the Planetarium.
We tested on
algebra,
patterns and
order of
operation and
are working on
divisibility
rules. We are
learning about
personal health
(teeth, eyes,
ears, skin), and
the importance
of exercise.

Music classes
for K, 3 and 4
are working
toward the
Spring Program.
2nd graders have
been working on
recorder songs.
1st graders
started learning
Spring songs and
songs about the
earth. 5th grade
just finished a
unit on songs
from around the
United States.
All classes
enjoyed
Valentine and
Groundhog Day
songs, and will
learn Irish
music for St.
Patrick’s Day.

Nurse Jane
reports that we
celebrated Heart
Month with
kindergartners
using American
Heart Assoc.
treasure chest
resources.
Kindergarten
will be making
anatomy aprons
in March and
introducing the
body systems.
Nurse Jane will
begin health
appraisals on
5th graders
(height, weight,
vision, hearing
and scoliosis
screenings.)
